Battery / Charging System
The charging system is not keeping the battery topped up.
This light indicates that your vehicle's charging system is not functioning correctly and is no longer maintaining the battery's charge. If this light stays on while driving, your car will eventually lose power and shut down.
What to do
- 01Pull over to a safe location as soon as you can.
- 02Turn off your engine immediately to preserve the remaining power.
- 03Do not attempt to restart the vehicle until it has been inspected.
- 04Call a tow truck to have your vehicle brought to our shop.
Other common causes
Common causes include a broken alternator belt, a failing alternator, loose or corroded battery cable connections, or a damaged electrical ground wire.
How we check it
We perform a charging system load test and inspect the condition of your battery, terminals, and alternator drive belt.
Symbols vary by make and model — always confirm in your owner's manual. If the light is red, the car feels different, or the light is blinking, stop and call us before driving further.
