Red
Transmission Oil Temperature
Transmission fluid is running hotter than normal.
This light indicates that your transmission fluid is operating at a temperature higher than what is considered safe. If left unchecked, this excessive heat can cause permanent internal damage to your transmission components.
What to do
- 01Pull over to a safe location away from traffic immediately.
- 02Place the transmission in park and turn off the engine.
- 03Allow the vehicle to cool down for at least 30 minutes.
- 04Contact a roadside assistance service or a repair shop to have the vehicle towed.
Other common causes
Common causes include low transmission fluid levels, a faulty cooling fan, a blocked transmission cooler, or a failing internal transmission sensor.
How we check it
We will inspect the transmission fluid condition, check for external leaks, and perform a diagnostic scan for transmission sensor codes.
Symbols vary by make and model — always confirm in your owner's manual. If the light is red, the car feels different, or the light is blinking, stop and call us before driving further.
