Red
Trunk / Tailgate Open
The trunk or liftgate is not fully closed.
This indicator light means that your vehicle trunk or tailgate is not fully latched or remains unlatched. Driving with the trunk open can be dangerous as items may fall out or exhaust fumes could enter the cabin.
What to do
- 01Find a safe place to pull over and come to a complete stop.
- 02Get out of the vehicle and fully close the trunk or tailgate.
- 03Verify that the light turns off on your dashboard before continuing your drive.
- 04If the light stays on after firmly closing the door, call for assistance or bring the vehicle to the shop.
Other common causes
A faulty trunk latch sensor, a damaged wire within the latch assembly, or debris caught in the locking mechanism preventing a secure seal.
How we check it
Our technicians will inspect the latch mechanism and test the sensor circuitry to ensure the signal is correctly detecting the door position.
Symbols vary by make and model — always confirm in your owner's manual. If the light is red, the car feels different, or the light is blinking, stop and call us before driving further.
