Low Engine Oil Level

Oil level reads at or below the minimum mark.

Stop safely

This symbol indicates that your engine oil level has dropped below the minimum required amount to safely lubricate your engine. It is a critical warning that suggests your engine may be at risk of severe internal damage if you continue to drive.

What to do

  1. 01Pull over to a safe location away from traffic immediately.
  2. 02Turn off your engine and wait at least ten minutes for the oil to settle.
  3. 03Check your oil dipstick level and add the manufacturer-recommended oil if it is low.
  4. 04If the light remains on after adding oil, do not drive the vehicle and have it towed to our shop.

Other common causes

A faulty oil level sensor, a significant external oil leak, or an issue with the internal oil pump pressure.

How we check it

Our technicians will perform a visual inspection for leaks and test the sensor functionality to identify the cause of the low reading.

Symbols vary by make and model — always confirm in your owner's manual. If the light is red, the car feels different, or the light is blinking, stop and call us before driving further.
